Issue 4: Project Launch
Project Lantern start life as… you guessed it, a lantern!
We were at an off-grid family festival over the August bank holiday weekend. One of the highlights of the weekend is the withy lantern parade - over the course of the weekend creative family’s industriously make bamboo and tissue paper lanterns, and then hoist them high for a night time parade around the festival site to conclude the event.
Of course, Roadster’s Sam and Dad wanted in on the action! We wanted to make something which reflected our year. What better than a car?
With Dad in charge of the design and structure, and Sam in charge of body work and masking tape we managed to fashion a vintage style racing car together. We proudly held our (quite heavy) lantern aloft and paraded our finished car around the site. Sadly the lantern was too big to bring home, so we took plenty of photographs and donated it to the recycling.
Once back at home Sam ran a photograph of our lantern through the simple and free to use “Vizcom” automotive Artificial Intelligence generator to see what happened… we were stunned by the results!
And there the idea of “Project Lantern” was born.
"Project Lantern" aims to illuminate kids and educate them in the various aspects of car design and product realisation. By taking a step-by-step approach involving readers and industry experts we aim to actually build our own roadster to show at various events.
