2024 marks a very special anniversary for Ford…
The Ford Mustang, the legendary American muscle car, is turning 60 years old! Since it was revealed at the World’s Fair on 17th April 1964, the Mustang has been a real head-turner. Roadster’s Peter joins the celebrations!
1964 was a year of excitement. The Beatles went off on their very first world tour and became globally famous. Cassius Clay won his first heavyweight title and became the boxing legend boxer Muhammed Ali. In Motor City Detroit, the Ford Mustang rolled off the production line and roared into life! People instantly fell in love the galloping pony!
Cool is a word we try to avoid using too often in ROADSTER!, but in the Mustang’s case it is absolutely allowed! The Ford Mustang IS super cool! With huge powerful engines, a long hood, short back, and a curvy body that make them look mean and muscular, Mustang’s look awesome and are huge fun to ride in.
That cool factor goes up a notch because of its starring role in some very famous movies. It is driven by Tilly Masterson in the James Bond film, Goldfinger, and is driven by cool 1960’s movie legend Steve McQueen in an exciting car chase through the streets of San Francisco in a very famous detective thriller called “Bullitt”. It has since featured in Gone in 60 Seconds and the Fast and the Furious films. The Mustang is a symbol of American cool!
Special Mustangs called Shelby GT350 and GT500 were also built by a racing legend named Carroll Shelby. These were super powerful and stylish, making Mustangs a symbol of American muscle cars, known for their speed and good looks. The Mustang is a car that makes people smile!
Over 60 years the Mustang has been Ford’s longest running model and it is now in its seventh generation. This year, to celebrate its 60th birthday, the Mustang is getting a special party! Ford is making some extra-awesome versions and there are events happening all over the place where you can see tons of Mustangs in all their glory.
