You know, Roadster Magazine may not be Autocar Business, or Carwow, or Top Gear Publishing, but that doesn’t mean we don’t get our own exclusive first looks now and again!
Roadster! HQ being based in Banbury has some major world-class motoring perks. We are right in the heart of Motorsport Valley, the natural habitat for the world’s most secret machinery. Earlier today, while taking the back roads home, Sam hit the ULTIMATE jackpot… we were tracking a predator. 🕵️♂️🐾
“Dad! Dad! Look!” Sam scrambled for a phone to snap his exclusive first glimpse of the production-spec 4-Door JLR Jaguar Type 00 stalking the local lanes. 🔭
The big cat may have been trying to camouflage itself in that dazzle hide, but there was no mistaking its distinctive, muscular profile.
What a privilege!
This is THE most talked-about car of the year. At first, Sam didn’t realise what he was looking at - such was its disguise. But as we drew closer, the excitement was palpable.
Type 00 is Jaguar’s first car in a new all electric era, The car represents a complete "re-launch" of the 90 year old Jaguar brand as it moves into a super-luxury, all-electric era. The concept car was revealed in December 2024, and it caused quite a stir! A whole new design language which is intended to be bold, colourful, fearless, unexpected. A super luxurious work of art on wheels!
Roadster! was lucky enough to get a glimpse of Jaguar’s new style at Goodwood Festival of Speed, but even though we waved our press passes we couldn’t get close enough - besides, the car everyone REALLY wants to see is the production model - how does this bold new design language translate to the car that is going to be on sale?
For now at least, the details are a closely guarded SECRET. It’s expected to have 1,000hp— more than ten "normal" cars combined, with a range of nearly 500 miles on a single charge.
Now, this car isn’t just a cool machine - it’s a car that MATTERS.
This car is SO important to the UK. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is the UK’s largest car manufacturer, employing around 34,000 people in the UK and supporting another 200,000 jobs.
The car needs to prove that the UK has the skills to build the most advanced, environmentally friendly EVs in the world. It is so important that Jaguar has stopped selling petrol cars to focus entirely on this new electric car.
And all of this matters to YOU because the car is a symbol of the world you are going to inherit when you are older. The Type 00 represents the future of the car for the UK. It’s a brave, bold statement that ensures high-tech jobs are available when you are ready to step into the world of work.
And the car we saw on the road was a development prototype - it’s THE car that matters!
We waited for a slow-moving i10 to turn off and then we moved in for our pounce! 🐾 We approached a roundabout, the Jag moved into the right-hand lane to retreat back to its lair, while we stayed in the left. Sam wound down the window and papped! 📸
The first and most obvious thing to notice is the camouflage - the "dazzle" wrap of black and white stripes specifically designed to hide the car's curves and body lines from cameras, making it hard for competitors to see exactly what it looks like before it's finished.
The next thing to notice is the design. Notice the extremely long hood and the "cab-rearward" design. Even though it's electric, Jaguar is keeping the classic, powerful proportions of their most famous historic cars like the E-Type.

Next, the details. Notice the horizontal LED strips at the back and the rear mounted camera in place of a rear windscreen.
And what an absolute beast! Over 5 meters long and, presenting a modern take on Jaguar style and heritage, with the long-nosed, low-slung presence of the great Jags predators of the past,
It’s a car that commands attention.
It’s easy to see this COULD be the era defining family GT of the future. It’s like a super-expensive designer watch that also happens to travel at 150mph!
Those who have been lucky enough to be chauffeured in it have been in awe. It’s designed to make long-distance travel feel effortless and silent. Early reports from the test tracks say this 1,000hp tri-motor beast is a masterpiece of engineering.
If Jaguar is going to reinvent themselves, we’re glad they’re doing it right here in our backyard...
Sam is now extremely keen to do one of his "Back Seat Driver" reviews for Roadster!
