Show us YOUR Wheels! Riley's Dad's Mini

I'm Riley and I’m 7 years old.

This is my Dad’s Mini. My Dad bought this car when he was just 16. He paid just £50 for it! He did it up with HIS dad (my Grampy) who is a mechanic ready for when he was old enough to learn to drive it.

My Dad used the Mini everyday until he was 21 when he bought his 2nd car. It has been in a heated garage, wrapped in blankets since! It is very special and now only comes out on fine days for car shows!

Although my Dad has had various cars since he will never get rid of the Mini.

Now I love it as much as my Dad! My favourite thing about it is that it is really noisy, sounds fast and goes vrrroooommmm. It's really funny that the driver and passenger doors have the same key but the boot, petrol cap and engine all have separate keys! All the new cars I've seen have one key that works everything!

I LOVE going out in my dad's Mini to car shows. My Dad and my Grampy took me to the Mini Car show at Gaydon Motor Museum. I loved it!

I love cars! My Grampy has a little red car he built and 2 quad bikes that he bought for me and my cousins to ride and I love zooming around on them!

ROADSTER! FACT FILE

The original Mini (now known as “classic mini”) is a true British icon and is considered to be one of the most influential cars of the 20th Century.

It came about as a result of a fuel shortage, with petrol being rationed in the UK. The Head of the British Motor Corporation decided that “a proper miniature car” was required and challenged designer Alec Issigoniss to come up with a car which could fit into a 3 metre long box.

The resulting car was a small, two-door, four-seat car. Its space saving engine and front wheel drive meant 80% of the car’s floor area could be used for passengers and luggage.

Production started in 1959 and over 5 million Mini’s were produced before production finally came to an end in 2000.
