Test Tyre Tread... with 20p!

Current UK law states that tyre tread on cars must be at a minimum of 1.6mm around the tyre. Anything less than this is DANGEROUS!

ONLY DO THIS IN A SAFE PLACE WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY. ASK AN ADULT TO HELP!

Find the middle of the tyre where it touches the road.

Stick the 20p coin in the grooves of the tyre...

Does the outer band of the 20p disappear into the groove of the tyre?

If you can't see the outer band, the tyres are likely safe.
