Try asking your friends and family to name a supercar brand. Did they name the company whose cars are draped in Rosso Corsa (racing red), have a prancing horse for a logo and are based in Maranello, Italy? We are of course talking about Ferrari.
As the most successful team in F1, Ferrari know a thing or two about building a car for the track. They specialise in adding the spirit of racing to their road cars, often in the form of rare limited editions. The most exclusive of all are those in the “XX” programme. This is a club reserved for the most loyal Ferrari customers who can arrange for their super rare track-only cars to be transported by Ferrari to a private track day. Previous “XX” variants are based on legendary models such as the 599, Enzo & La Ferrari.
The latest stallion of the “XX” programme has escaped through the Fiorano gates (Ferrari’s test track) and onto the road. The SF90 XX Stradale is the track focussed version of their fastest ever road car.
The performance of the standard SF90 has been “raised to impressive new heights” in the “XX” thanks to increased power from the electric motor in the hybrid system and “radical new aero solutions”. Aerodynamics are used to control how air flows around the car which helps push it down into the road to increase grip and stability. The obvious aero feature on the SF90 XX is the fixed rear wing, the first on a road-going Ferrari since the iconic F50; showing this prancing horse is not afraid of bucking the trend.
Despite all of the wings and intakes, it still remains beautiful, as all Ferraris should and the carefully selected orange accents on the launch car highlight the new aero features nicely. The louvres (bodywork cutouts) carved out of the front and rear wheel arches are also special details reserved only for the most celebrated Ferraris such as the F12 TDF which took inspiration from the famous louvres on the 1950’s 250 GT TDF.
We are sure that the first road-going “XX” Ferrari will be an exhilarating handful and we cannot wait to see how it deals with bumpy, unforgiving roads compared to smooth, flowing tracks. Ferrari will likely have to add another stable to their paddock of legendary stallions to house the SF90 XX.
